WELCOME

On behalf of the LGBTQ Programming Office and the LGBTQ Mentoring Program, we would like to welcome you to the LGBTQ Resources site. To the left, you will find information on upcoming LGBTQ-related events, as well as hyperlinks that will direct you to a variety of on-campus and off-campus resources.

Thanks to everyone who attended our events and helped make this year so successful. We are especially pleased with out new home at 5710 Woodlawn and being able to share space with out friends and colleagues at OMSA. We look forward to more joint programming between offices. Special thanks go to our LGBTQ Programming Intern, Sarah Bouchat, for all her hard work and dedication. We congratulate her and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.

Bill Michel and I are pleased to announce that we will be joined in the fall by our new LGBTQ Programming Intern, Klint Jaramillo. Klint is a new student in SSA and comes to us from Rutgers where he worked in Rutgers’s Office of Social Justice Education & LGBT Communities. He has a host of great skills and great ideas for our office and we look forward to working with him later this summer.

Klint will be joined by two College students: Dave Klein, who will be assisting the LGBTQ Programming Office prepare for orientations as well as Jeremy Kisala who will work as our transgender liaison helping us strengthen support for trans and gender queer students.

I also wanted to alert you to two events being hosted by the LGBTQ Programming Office: Queer 101, which takes place Friday, September 26th from 4-5pm in the Shared Meeting Room at 5710, offers students new to the University the opportunity to hear about LGBTQ resources here on campus and in the Chicago community. In addition, we will host our seventeenth (!) Annual LGBTQ Welcome and welcome back to campus reception for all LGBTQ students, staff, faculty, and friends on Thursday, October 2, 2008 from 4-6pm in the 5710 Community Lounge. All are invited to attend.

Here’s wishing you a happy and safe summer. We look forward to seeing you in the fall.

Sincerely,
Kathy Forde
