James C. Hormel Dissertation Fellowships in Lesbian and Gay Studies
The Lesbian and Gay Studies Project is pleased to announce the competition for two James C. Hormel Fellowships in Lesbian and Gay Studies for the 2009-10 academic year. The Hormel Fellowships are made possible by the generous support of James C. Hormel, the former Ambassador to Luxembourg and an alumnus and former Dean of the University of Chicago Law School.
The fellowship competition is open to University of Chicago Ph.D. students who are writing dissertations in lesbian, gay, and queer studies. Students in all disciplines are encouraged to apply. The fellowship provides a stipend of $15,000 for the 2009-2010 academic year, and Hormel Fellows are also provided with office space from the LGSP at the Center for Gender Studies. Recipients are expected to devote the year to work on the dissertation and not to take on other jobs. They are also expected to participate in the programs of the LGSP and Center for Gender Studies, to attend the Gender and Sexuality Studies Workshop, and to present their work to it. Awards will be announced by the end of April, and payment of the fellowship will begin in the autumn.
