The Office of the Vice President and Dean of Students in the University is now accepting applications for a four-and-a-half-quarter internship for a graduate student or advanced undergraduate student (rising 3rd or 4th year) interested in supporting the LGBTQ Programming Office. The deadline for receiving the applications is 5pm on Friday, April 18, 2008. The intern will work directly with Bill Michel, Assistant Vice President for Student Life, Kathy Forde, Director of the LGBTQ Mentoring Program, and in collaboration with OMSA staff. Working from the LGBTQ Programming Office at 5710 S Woodlawn Ave, the LGBTQ Programming Intern will:
- Develop educational programming, events and resources for LGBTQ students, both on the basis of good practices established in the past, as well as working to creatively and effectively address new or ongoing concerns and questions raised by students in the College and the graduate and professional schools.
- Work with 5710 student staff to enhance queer student resources both online at lgbtq.uchicago.edu and in the LGBTQ Resource Center at 5710 S Woodlawn.

- Work to support and publicize all activities of the LGBTQ Programming Office.
- Plan LGBTQ programming for the new undergraduate and graduate student orientation programs in the Fall.

- Develop Open Source as a vibrant, confidential, informal series of discussion groups, providing student support service for queer, questioning, and straight allies.
- The programming intern is responsible for hiring, helping to train, and overseeing five paid Open Source student discussion leaders, as well as overseeing the discussion groups throughout the year.

- Work closely with Kathy Forde, OMSA, LGBTQ students, LGBTQ students of color, and other students of color at 5710 S Woodlawn to support programming and events in the new 5710 Center, including support for the quarterly Allies program with OMSA staff.
- Reach out to students in the College and the graduate and professional schools, as well as to the various LGBTQ student organizations (e.g., Q&A, GLIB, QueeReligious, etc.) in order to build networks and coordinate their efforts with those of the LGBTQ Programming Office.

Evaluate the overall effectiveness of these efforts and recommend future improvements.
Duration of Position: The position will begin by May 5, 2008 and extend through the end of Spring Quarter 2009. Students not planning to be on campus for the duration of the summer are still welcome to apply, however the intern should be available via email or phone to coordinate programmatic planning efforts with other students and departments for Orientation and the Fall Quarter. The intern will also be expected to be on campus during Orientation Week in the fall, to implement and assist with programming for incoming students.
Hours: The intern is expected to work 10 - 15 hours per week during each 11 week academic quarter (Fall ‘08, Winter ‘09, and Spring ‘09). The intern will be expected to work a combined total of 11 weeks between Spring ’08 (approximately 4 weeks), Summer ’08 (approximately 6 weeks), and Orientation Week ‘08.
Compensation: The stipend for the position is $1,500 for each quarter.
